Experience the WRAL Nights of Lights at Dorothea Dix Park, a drive-through light show that partners with the city of Raleigh to provide jolly holiday traditions that dazzle, shine, and light up one of the area's most beautiful public parks.

General admission tickets are available in 30-minute time blocks starting at 5:30-6:00 pm, with the last time slot available being at 9:30 pm. General admission for vehicles is $20 and $30 for Christmas weeknights, while there are also Fast Lane tickets and Bike Nights available to purchase.

Towering oaks, rolling hills, and open fields throughout the park serve as magical backdrops for the light show. The illuminated trees and festive light displays along a 1.3-mile route delight all visitors. You can choose to walk, run, or bike through the 5K walk or enjoy the magical show from the warmth of your car.

3. Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts Tree

Every year, the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts Center sets up a beautiful artificial Christmas tree with light decorations in downtown Raleigh. As soon as it gets dark, the center lights up the columns with green and red lights and decorates them with fun ornaments.

The Illuminate Art Walk in Downtown Raleigh started during the challenging year of 2020. This walk brought joy to the Raleigh community at a time when festivals and parties disappeared. Over a dozen local artists were commissioned to jazz up the plaza and storefronts, and the event has now become a regular annual holiday tradition to add to our Christmas celebrations.

This year, in 2023, there will be 16 art installations that will mostly be found on Fayetteville Street and the Glenwood South District. It's recommended to allow yourself about an hour and a half to view all the beautiful light displays. This walk is entirely self-guided, but they do offer an interactive map to make sure you can enjoy everything. Admission is free.

The tickets for standard vehicles cost $20.00, and Coastal Credit Union members can enjoy a $5.00 discount on tickets. The event features themed light displays, including the Blizzard Tunnel, the 12 Days of Christmas, Winter Wonderland, and The Night Before Christmas. 

Guests can enjoy weaving through a spectacular one-mile holiday light display that offers various holiday features. The show is presented at 20 venues and entertains 5 million guests annually. If you tune your radio to 98.3, you can listen to the Christmas music that is played during the event. 

Not only does it showcase Christmas scenes, it also features holiday attractions for Hanukkah and Kwanza, as well as other random things like larger-than-life Holiday Barbie, monster trucks, and many other things that kids can enjoy.

7. North Carolina Chinese Lantern Festival (Cary, NC)

Location: 8003 Regency Pkwy, Cary, NC

For the past eight years, Cary's Koka Booth Amphitheater has been hosting an annual festival from November 17th to January 14th. This festival attracts people from all over North Carolina who come to see over 40 beautiful displays, performances, and more. Ticket prices range from $9 to $30, depending on the age of the person and the day of the visit.

This unique festival is a must-visit destination that offers an opportunity to experience almost every aspect of China's unique lantern tradition. Unlike other holiday light displays, this festival is fun and engaging and provides a glimpse into Chinese culture.

With over 2,500 lanterns and more than 15,000 LED lights, the festival features 50 unique displays.
